Mizen Head

September 2, 2011

Last Monday was a really beautiful early Autumn day.  I took a few hours do to a walk around Mizen Head.  Its the most south-westerly corner of Ireland, and a place famous to anyone who listens to weather forecasts.  Its not often it looks so sunny and calm.

Mizen Head

Sea Cave

Bridge and Lighthouse

Looking down from the bridge...uh oh

Its a long way down

Its a lighthouse without a light - it used to sit on top of the roof. The really important lighthouse (Fastnet) is a few km offshore.

View north towards Sheeps Head and the Beara Peninsula.

I’ve always loved towerhouses – one day maybe I’ll own one and restore it (if I win the lottery I suppose). Here is a particularly lovely one on the road along the north-west side of Mizen.

The living room ceiling - needs a bit of paint

I also quite like beaches – a particularly fine one here just east of Mizen.
