Cycling back to Collooney

September 18, 2011

After a beautiful Saturday, last Sunday heavy rain and wind set in as I set off back to Collooney. I didn’t retrace my wheeltracks – I followed the coast road east from Aughris, then took the Coolaney Road over the Ox Mountains, its not as high as the Ladies Brae, more of a short sharp climb than the gentle ascent of the latter, and it would have been very scenic, but visibility was very low.  It was a typical west of Ireland misty rainy windy day, so I only took one photograph in the mist.

Sligo in the rain

When I got to Collooney, the river through the town, swollen with overnight rain was roaring past the towns old mill.

And finally, to bustling Collooney train station.
